It’s always somewhat comforting to understand there is a psychological reason that I cannot stop drinking after I take that first drink. To me, it appears normal drinkers can so easily Overcoming Alcohol Addiction, even after 3 drinks, which it to me is completely unfathomable. The information used in this article came from the blog post Biological Reasons why Alcoholics Can’t Stop Drinking by Wendy Perkins.

Quick background… I quit drinking about 10 years ago just for health. Family has a background of alcoholism. About 3 years ago, I started drinking “socially” and then it seemed an every day occurrence. I wondered if I had a problem because I just couldn’t quit, I also couldn’t just have one drink.
I listened to your blog and a few others and it helped but I never seemed as “bad” as you or any of your guests. (I know I shouldn’t look for differences but similarities) I found it EASY to quit once I put my mind to it. I quit for two and a half months when I decided to have a social drink for a little celebration for my wife… I couldn’t stop! I polished off a whole bottle of wine! (and then two glasses more later in the evening). for the next two weeks, I keep telling myself I can stop at one…and by the end of the evening, another bottle done! I too want to understand the mechanism! I know what you say that we are just predisposed that we just need to avoid alcohol all together.
Thanks Paul! Got to get back on that wagon again!
Is there a way to connect with this Jeff guy from this podcast? I would like to learn more about his story.
Your article gave me a lot of inspiration, I hope you can explain your point of view in more detail, because I have some doubts, thank you.
